A replacement should address the roof covering, deck, underlayment, flashing, roof edges, and ventilation. Ask the installer to explain how the proposed materials suit the roof slope and existing conditions.

- Removal and disposal of existing layers.
- Deck inspection and the cost of replacement sheets.
- Underlayment and ice-barrier details.
- New or reused flashing and roof vents.
- Driveway protection and final debris removal.
Discuss the schedule
Roof size, access, weather, and hidden repairs affect the work. Ask how the roof will be protected if rain interrupts installation. Confirm local permit requirements before the job begins.
Read both warranties
A manufacturer's material warranty and an installer's workmanship warranty cover different things. Get the terms in writing, including exclusions and the steps for reporting a problem.
